Where Technology Meets Tanzania's Tourism Sector
Exploring how software, APIs, AI, and digital tools are transforming the way Tanzania and East Africa attract, serve, and retain travellers. Written by a developer who builds these systems firsthand — from Kilimanjaro region.
Tanzania receives over a million tourists yearly, yet there is no standardised digital layer that travel apps, booking engines, or AI tools can plug into. Xenohuru is our attempt to change that — an open, developer-friendly REST API aggregating destinations, parks, routes, and accommodation data.
TechTour is my ongoing project to document and share insights from the intersection of software engineering and Tanzania's tourism industry. I build systems in this space — booking platforms, open APIs, AI chatbots — and write about what I learn along the way.
If you work in tourism tech, are a developer curious about African markets, or just want to understand how software shapes travel in East Africa — this space is for you.
